“Community of Ukrainians in Lebanon” was created on December 8th 2017. It was founded by eight Ukrainian women.
Iryna Vysota is a Ukrainian woman who has been living in Lebanon for a long time and actively promotes Ukraine.
Currently, the Community has about 80 official members, but the circle of friends and active helpers of the organization is much wider.
The main activities of the Community are cultural enlightenment, education and charity.
From the very beginning of the creation of the organization, its goal was the preservation, spread and development of specific Ukrainian traditions in Lebanese-Ukrainian families.
An important direction of the Community’s activity is to encourage the study of the Ukrainian language, the involvement of youth and children in the Ukrainian upbringing and environment.
The community is an active and permanent organizer of the events of the Embassy of Ukraine in Lebanon. Therefore, it allows members of the Community to regularly celebrate traditional Ukrainian holidays and important ceremonies, organize master classes, fairs of Ukrainian art and cuisine.
Concerts of Ukrainian stars, educational lectures and book clubs are held.
With the assistance of the Community of Ukrainians, the works of Lesya Ukrainka, Ivan Franko, Agathangel Krymskyi and Taras Shevchenko were translated into Arabic.
Moreover, thanks to the involvement of the organization, a Ukrainian book stand occupied the International Book Fair in Beirut for two consecutive years.
The activities of the Community not only help to unite Ukrainians, but also contribute to the fact that Lebanese learn a lot about Ukrainian culture and Ukraine in general.
The community played a major role in the spread of Ukrainian culture by sending groups of Ukrainian and Lebanese children on vacation to the Artek-Bukovel camp in Ukraine, for three years in a row.
Charity is another integral component of the community’s work. It supports families of Ukrainian women who find themselves in a difficult situation, holds therapy meetings and provides legal support to its members.
This was especially noticeable after the Beirut port explosion on August 4th 2020. Through the charitable activities of the Community, it was possible to promptly organize material and medical aid for the affected Ukrainians and later to provide them with psychological support.
The community of Ukrainians in Lebanon is a platform where Ukrainians and Lebanese can spend their free time together. “Ukrainian picnics” in nature, educational excursions to different regions in Lebanon became the favorite activities of intercultural harmony.
For children, their favorite of all traditional Ukrainian holidays is St. Nicholas Day, which is traditionally organized by the Ukrainian Community.
